Safe SexSafer Sex by Luke Strong Greetings once again viewers to Luke's Lair, in this educational feature we are going to be looking at safer sex. I'm afraid it is a topic that is one people don't like to hear about, but I think it is an important one to cover. In a lot of ways I hope I'm 'preaching to the choir' as they say with these articles and I'd hope that if you have an interest in the world of BDSM you already know how to keep yourself and your partners safe, but I also feel that sites like Luke's Lair and people involved in the adult industry, myself especially do have a responsibility to play safe and to try and encourage other people to do so as well. The choice is at the end of the day always yours but we'd always hope you make the decisions that best protect and respect you and your partner. First of all, it can be embarrassing going to the shops to buy condoms and lubes, this is true of teenagers, straight people and gay people, the British I feel still have a lot of hang ups about sex, so it can be difficult. The great thing is most gay bars and clubs in big cities offer free safer sex packs, certainly the Lesbian and Gay Foundation (LFG) in Manchester where Luke's Lair is based do a fantastic job of making sure there are always ones around in Canal Street and I know Leeds, London and Brighton all do similar projects, so there really is no excuse for not getting hold of some. Also your local sexual health projects or hospital sexual health clinics will be able to give you safer sex packs too. I suppose rule one is always use a condom when having anal sex. And I know that's the easiest thing in the world to say, but in practice can be a lot harder, but it's the best way to keep yourself healthy and free of any STI's that you might otherwise catch. There are obviously exceptions, I'd agree that in a long term monogamous relationship it's probably safer to lose the condoms, although personally I like them even then for the cleanliness and disposable factor. In terms of the content we shoot on the site it's also worth noting that if you do share sex toys they should always be put in condoms if they can. If the toy is the wrong shape, inflates or too big to fit in one then they should be cleaned in boiling hot water with disinfectants before and after use. I think a lot of (especially younger) guys today under estimate the impact conditions like HIV can have on your life, there seems to be a growing feeling that with the improvements made in treatment the condition is nowhere near as fatal or serious as it would have been seen even ten years ago, I think guys who think like that are drastically under estimating how unpleasantly the cocktails of drugs you'd have to live on, and the prejudice that society still has against people with HIV and would really do well to think twice if a few moments of pleasure are worth risking your long term health over. We at Luke's Lair always play safe and make a point not to use any models who don't in order to protect and respect the other lads on the site. I know that there will always be a market for bareback porn, but it's something I and the rest of the guys don't condone and won't ever shoot. We hope that by shooting good quality BDSM porn there will be less of a market for poorer quality bareback porn and hopefully help keep the lads who make it safe and spread the message that condoms are cool. Until next time, stay safe Master Luke |
